COMPASSIONATE HEARTS of JESUS and MARY

AWARE of the presence of fear, bigotry and hate in our world a new international, ecumenical, online Spiritual Association of the Compassionate Hearts of Jesus and Mary (CCHJM), has been created to assist members in developing the virtue of compassion.

The Aim of CCHJM is to develop a compassionate heart for the sake of the world: its Purpose to nurture compassion.  There’s a simple Rule:

  • spend time each day in the presence of the Heart of Jesus;
  • express compassion practically;
  • reflect daily on one's practice of compassion;
  • recognise the value of the Sacrament of Reconciliation.

You can join without adopting this Rule by becoming an Associate.

CCHJM has the approval and support of the Bishop of Southwark.  It’s free to join and there aren’t any meetings to attend.  You can leave a comment here or join by visiting: www.cchjm.org

I never watch TV so didn't see Broken. But here's an interesting commentary on it. https://www.churchtimes.co.uk/articles/2017/7-july/comment/opinion/...

Does anyone else agree that 'Broken', which ended its run on the BBC last night, is amongst the best programmes dealing with social and personal issues from a profoundly Christian basis?  It also appears to be a story with equally profound spiritual roots - the heart of our relationship with God in Christ and the way that affects life.  It is a real expression of the saying of St. Jean Marie Vianney, Patron of Parish Clergy: 'The Priesthood is the love of the Heart of Jesus'.
I know the writer professes to be an atheist - but can hardly believe that's true.  His Catholic upbringing has clearly made an indelible mark on his attitude to life.  I've rarely seen such a moving and powerful portrayal of the Christian Faith in action - and all rooted in the dynamic of the Eucharist. Might it be required viewing by theological students and bishops?  It might make an excellent Lent Course for 2018.  Thanks, Jimmy McGovern - this is a real FRESH EXPRESSION!

If you cannot receive Holy Communion there's a tradition of making an ACT OF SPIRITUAL COMMUNION.  Information about it is available here: http://cchjm.org/act-of-spiritual-communion/

As the potter shapes the clay into its desired form, we can have no greater desire than that our heart be re-formed into the Heart of Jesus.

The soul is in God and God in the soul, just as the fish is in the sea and the sea in the fish. (S. Catherine of Siena: Dialogue 2)

Share the same love, be one in soul and mind. Do nothing from selfish ambition, look out for each other's interests, not just for your own.

Here is a link to our latest 'Compassion Quarterly'. In it you’ll find information about some of the developments that have occurred since the launch of the Association, most importantly that we’ve been given Episcopal Approval by the (Anglican) Bishop of Southwark. In addition we have:

+ published various articles including: Propers for a Eucharist of the Divine Compassion of Jesus; Devotion to the Sacred Heart for non-RC's; Prayer Practice for Sitting in the Compassionate Gaze of Jesus ...
+ set up a Twitter hashtag (#cchjm123) where daily tweets are normally posted;

There are also new articles by two of our Members. Hope you find the issue of interest and help.

The Poor Orphan Child

I was reading Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte, this poem is just before Jane goes to Lowood House, the orphanage in the story. It reminded me of Psalm 27 verse 10: When my father and my mother forsake me, then the LORD will take me up. My feet they…

Food for thought...

Autistic daughter (Biology graduate) to Mum:  "Mum, will there be sea creatures in Heaven?"Knowledgeable (well, thinks she is) Mum: Well, it does say in the Bible (Rev 21:1 - courtesy Google) that there will be no more sea...Daughter: "Oh, that won't be a problem, they'll just swim through the air."I thought it appropriate not to argue!See More
